PICU RNs are highly skilled in managing complex medical conditions, including acute respiratory distress, traumatic injuries, post-surgical care, and life-threatening illnesses. They work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver advanced, patient-centered care and ensure optimal outcomes for critically ill children. Key Responsibilities : • Provide intensive, specialized care to pediatric patients with life-threatening conditions, including respiratory failure, organ failure, and postoperative complications. • Monitor and assess patients' critical conditions, including vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and respiratory status, using advanced monitoring equipment. • Administer medications, treatments, and interventions specific to critically ill pediatric patients, including mechanical ventilation, IV therapies, and pain management. • Collaborate with intensivists, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans. • Perform advanced procedures such as intubation, central line placement, and hemodynamic monitoring. • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on complex medical conditions, treatment plans, and strategies for care at home. • Provide emotional support and guidance to patients and families coping with acute and life-threatening illnesses. • Maintain accurate, thorough documentation of patient assessments, treatments, and outcomes, adhering to clinical standards and regulatory requirements. • Monitor and respond to complications, such as respiratory distress, sepsis, and hemodynamic instability, ensuring timely interventions. • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, clinical meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance care delivery. • Provide family-centered care, supporting parents and caregivers in navigating their child's critical health needs.
