Job Summary
Provides continuous quality nursing care to patients in Radiology’s Neurovascular, Special Procedures, Interventional, and all other Radiology areas.
• Exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers. Demonstrates courtesy, compassion, and respect to others in adherence of the hospital’s philosophy and policy for promoting a positive work and customer environment.
• Works closely with the team and physicians when performing interventional procedures and angiograms within Special procedures or the interventional suite, i.e. Cardiac Cath, if needed.
• Works as a member of a quality team to continuously improve quality outcomes within the interventional suite. Supports radiology services by providing optimal patient care as allowable to Neurovascular, Special Procedure, and the other multiple radiology services, as needed; CT, MRI, NucMed, Diagnostic, Ultrasound, and Mammography, if needed. Additionally, responds to emergencies within the department when not caring for a patient.
• Fax reports to referring physician’s office to obtain a timely response for follow up biopsy to be scheduled.
• Responsible for providing optimum patient-care to radiology patients; also functions as a patient advocate. Assesses and monitors patient condition and initiates appropriate nursing intervention.
• Assess patient, obtains medical history, obtains vitals.
• Educates patient and family regarding exam, treatment and outcome.
• Coordinates effective handling of emergencies arising from contrast media reactions, seizures, cardiac arrest, etc.
• Assists the Radiologist as a team member during interventional or diagnostic procedures within Neurovascular and Special Procedures. Assists in the interventional procedure care capacity as a circulator assistant, monitor assistant, or scrub assistant.
• Administers medications, changes dressings/special appliances, and monitors vital signs when needed.
• Acts as a liaison between Radiology, patient care units, and patient care services
• Provides instruction and education in IV therapy to technologists and completes annual re-certifications of IV injections on technologists.
• Provides in-services in BLS, patient care, safety and infection control. Coordinates BLS classes for ancillary departments. Provides in services for technical staff. Assists with the orientation of nurses, physicians, technologists, and students.
• Assists with quality improvement and risk management programs and participates in the department’s quality improvement program. Performs necessary follow-up for concerns/incident reports.
• Works with the Cardiovascular Clinical supervisor and Radiology Supervisor to review, revise, and develop policies and procedures relevant to patient care.
• Takes weekday, weekend, and holiday call as assigned.
Education And Experience
Minimum Required Education: Must be a Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Virginia.
Experience: 1 year of nursing experience (preferably in critical care and the emergency department), will consider new graduates.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Applicant must be a Registered Nurse licensed by the Virginia Board of Nursing. BLS & ACLS certifications.
