A Day in the Life
As a Weekend Registered Nurse, youll be the reassuring presence families rely on. Every weekend, youll visit patients, provide skilled hospice care, guide families through questions and concerns, and respond to urgent needs with calm confidence. Youll collaborate closely with our interdisciplinary hospice team and ensure each patients care plan is clear, updated, and personalized. Whether youre making home visits, responding to triage calls, or supporting a family through a difficult moment, your work as a Weekend RN carries deep meaning.
What Youll Do
As a Weekend Registered Nurse / Weekend RN, you will:
• Provide compassionate hospice nursing care, education, and interventions.
• Manage all patient care needs during your shift, including assessment, planning, and documentation.
• Respond to medical or emotional crises with professionalism and warmth.
• Make home visits to deliver direct hospice care.
• Provide follow-up calls after triage for clarity and support.
• Adhere to Northern Illinois Hospice on-call protocols.
Schedule
Weekend Registered Nurse schedule: Every weekend, Saturday & Sunday, 8:00am8:30pm. Three 12-hour shifts may be arranged for full-time status.
Requirements
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
• Active Illinois Registered Nurse license.
• 1+ year medical/surgical, oncology, or hospice experience (2 years RN preferred).
• CHPN preferred (or obtained within 2 years).
• CPR certification within three months.
• Local residence with 30-minute on-call response time.
Compensation
Weekend Registered Nurse pay range: $37.00$52.00/hour, based on experience, education, skills, and internal equity.
