Job Title: Operating Room Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: RN Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 3x12 Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 3+ years in an Operating Room setting License: Registered Nurse (RN) License required Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: - Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required - Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing - Good interpersonal and communication skills Description: Responsible and accountable for utilizing the nursing process in the provision of patient care. The Operating Room Nurse is responsible for planning, executing, conducting, and evaluating both direct and indirect nursing care for surgical patients. Duties range from preoperative interventions to post-operative assessments that help meet a patient’s needs throughout the operative care. Performs assessment and data collection in an ongoing systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, cognitive, and cultural diversity of the patient. Determines mobility, sensory deficits, prostheses use, and skin condition while adjusting the plan of care as appropriate. Responsible for supervising and directing patient care in the operating suite, ensuring proper techniques are used. Maintains count of sponges, needles, and other instruments used in the operating room. Collaborates as appropriate with physicians and other clinical disciplines to plan interventions that meet the needs of patients and families. Serves as a scrub nurse when necessary. Implements proper techniques, procedures, and safety precautions to meet individual needs of patients and families. Prepares the operative area, positions the patient, and adjusts the operative table. Evaluates and documents patient response to performance of care provided, revising the plan of care as necessary. Ensures all supplies and equipment required are sterile and available for use. Monitors any changes in the patient’s condition. Works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team. Performs other duties as required. Directs other staff when necessary and reports any unusual occurrences. Ensures all medications are administered and charted properly. Ensures care of specimens is labeled and secured according to policy. Involves physical demands such as standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and bending. May include some repetitive motions. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions without compromising patient care.
