Position Summary:
The PACU Per Diem RN is responsible for the overall assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients (primarily pediatrics) receiving anesthesia at the New York Proton Center. The person in this role will provide clinical nursing care, ensuring compliance with established regulations and standards including quality assurance and accurate medical record documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities:Complete daily assessment of patients, measure vital signs, place IVs, access central line catheters including implanted ports.Assist Anesthesiologist in placing monitoring and supportive devices during induction of anesthesia. Monitor patient vital signs during administration of anesthesia at direction of Anesthesiologist. Recover patients post anesthesia; document interval vital signs, ensure patients reach adequate recovery score prior to discharge. Provide patient care coordination in conjunction w/ radiation therapy team and physicians prior to scheduled appointments. Provide patient and family education including pre-appointment anesthesia instructions, radiation therapy nursing education, and discharge instructions. Participate in all Quality Improvement projects by providing input as it pertains to nursing components for safe and efficient patient care.Comply with all New York Proton Center policies related to Privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)Perform other job-related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:At least 2 years of professional nursing experience, required.At least 6 months of Pediatric PACU (periprocedural) or pediatric intensive care experience, required. Prior experience working with pediatric oncology patients, preferred. Graduated from accredited School of Nursing, required.Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, required.Current valid NY Registered Nurse License, required.BLS and PALS certified, required ACLS certified, preferredAbility to multi-task, manage multiple projects at one time, and rapidly change priorities based on patient and practice needs.High integrity with respect to maintenance of confidential patient information.Composure under pressure.Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, experience with data management, and efficiency using electronic medical record systems. Oncology Information System, ARIA and Touchworks experience preferred.
Hours:
6:30AM - 10:30AM at minimum, but flexible to stay longer. Monday - Friday only.

The salary range and/or hourly rate displayed is a determination of base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
