Position: RN / REGISTERED NURSE - EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT - PRN Overview The PRN Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) provides both direct and indirect nursing care to patients requiring emergency medical services. This role requires a thorough understanding of departmental and hospital policies related to the delivery of emergency care, ensuring safe, timely, and effective treatment. Strong interpretive, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills are essential, as the position involves frequent interaction, collaboration, and consultation with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members. This PRN role includes a commitment of one shift biweekly , one weekend per month , and coverage of one summer holiday and one winter holiday , supporting the dynamic needs of the Emergency Department while maintaining scheduling flexibility. Responsibilities • Assessment & Prioritization • Performs thorough patient assessments and determines priorities of care based on clinical presentation, risk factors, and urgency. • Conducts risk assessments to identify potential complications and initiate appropriate interventions. • Specimen Collection & Processing • Collects accurate and adequate blood and urine specimens using proper technique, equipment, and safety protocols. • Correctly labels and processes specimens to ensure accuracy and traceability. • Ensures timely delivery of specimens to the laboratory, coordinating courier services or specimen pickup with outside agencies as required. • Documentation & Communication • Maintains clear, timely, and accurate documentation in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards. • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members, ensuring clarity and continuity of care. • Clinical Problem-Solving • Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills by assessing situations, identifying issues, and implementing appropriate solutions in a timely manner. • Equipment Operation & Skill Proficiency • Operates clinical and diagnostic equipment safely and competently, ensuring proper function and reporting any malfunction. • Maintains proficiency in required clinical skills and adheres to established standards of practice. • Teamwork & Collaboration • Works collaboratively within the healthcare team, promoting a positive, cooperative, and supportive work environment. • Demonstrates initiative by anticipating patient and departmental needs and taking proactive steps to address them. Qualifications • Minimum of one year of Emergency Department or Critical Care experience required. • Ability to perform CPR in accordance with current clinical standards. • Completion of Baby Friendly Education within 6 months of hire. • PALS certification required within 6 months of hire. • TNCC certification required within 1 year of hire. • EPIC Preferred Credentials • RN - Registered Nurse • BLS - Basic Life Saving certification • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support • NIH - Stroke Certification Education • Graduate of an accredited nursing school Entry USD $36.20/Hr.
