
RN/Registered Nurse - Inpatient with On-Call Coverage in Eagle Butte, SD
Job Description
Job Title: RN Inpatient (with On-Call Coverage)
Specialty: Inpatient Nursing (Critical Access Hospital) must be capable of occasional coverage in Outpatient and Emergency Departments
Site: Cheyenne River Health Center
Location: 24276 166th Street, Eagle Butte, SD 57625
Duration: 1-year base contract with the possibility of up to two additional 1-year extensions
Shift Schedule: Regular Inpatient Shifts (12-hour rotating shifts):
• 7:00 AM 7:30 PM
• 7:00 PM 7:30 AM
• 11:30 AM 12:00 AM
On-Call Schedule
• MondayFriday: 4:00 PM 7:00 AM
• SaturdaySunday & Holidays: 7:00 PM 7:00 AM
• Must report within 45 minutes when called
How Many Shifts Needed Per Month: Based on operational needs; estimated 22,880 regular hours/year and 5,616 on-call hours/year for the inpatient department (government does not guarantee minimum hours)
Credentialing / Onboarding Time: 6 to 8 weeks
License
• Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in any U.S. State or Territory
Certifications
• American Heart Association BLS Required
• American Heart Association ACLS Required
• American Heart Association PALS Required
Experience Needed
• Minimum 1 year experience as a Registered Nurse
• Experience caring for all age groups (newborn through geriatric)
Special Skills Needed
• Ability to function independently after orientation
• Proficiency in inpatient nursing procedures, including but not limited to:
• Medication administration (IV/IM/oral)
• IV insertion and IV therapy
• Wound care and wound vac
• Foley catheter care
• Blood glucose monitoring and point-of-care testing
• Immunizations and lab draws
• Ability to work in a rural Critical Access Hospital with limited resources
• Willingness to float to Outpatient or Emergency Department on an infrequent, as-needed basis
• Cultural awareness and ability to work within an IHS tribal healthcare environment
Responsibilities
• Provide full-scope inpatient nursing care in accordance with RN standards of practice and IHS policies
• Deliver care to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients, including swing-bed admissions
• Participate in quality assurance, patient safety initiatives, and performance improvement activities
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation per HIM and nursing standards
• Perform charge nurse duties as assigned (no supervision of government staff)
• Comply with all federal, IHS, HIPAA, and facility-specific policies and procedures
