Morgan County School District Re-3 Position Description / Job Posting Position Title: School Nurse Location: Multiple School Sites / District Support Center Reports To: School Site Administration and Director of Special Services Position Summary Morgan County School District Re-3 is seeking a qualified Registered Nurse to serve as a School Nurse supporting multiple school sites. The School Nurse is responsible for promoting student health and safety, ensuring compliance with state and district health requirements, and providing professional nursing services to students with medical needs. The position supports student access to education by developing health care plans, providing direct nursing services, and collaborating with staff, families, and community agencies. This position follows the regular school calendar (Monday–Friday, daytime hours) and includes district-recognized breaks (Fall Break, Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Spring Break, etc.). The position is PERA eligible and benefits eligible. Essential Functions and Responsibilities • Assist in developing and implementing district health and safety objectives. • Direct the district’s immunization and health screening programs and maintain appropriate documentation and records. • Maintain current knowledge of State of Colorado and District health requirements, regulations, and policies; assist in communication, data collection, reporting, and compliance monitoring. • Report to site administrators on a continuing basis any student not in compliance with State Immunization Law. • Initiate observation, care, and referral as necessary for students or staff who experience injury or emergent illness. • Administer first aid in accordance with established procedures. • Provide nursing services during school hours for students with chronic and/or ongoing physical health needs and recommend accommodation to ensure access to education. • Develop and maintain individualized Health Care Plans for students with significant health concerns, including documentation required for Medicaid reporting. • Inform administrators and teachers of individual student health concerns as necessary and appropriate while maintaining confidentiality. • Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records for all students. • Provide student screenings and reports for special education staffings and evaluations. • Prepare and submit required reports to District administration and appropriate State agencies. • Provide in-service training and delegate nursing procedures to appropriate building-level staff in accordance with state regulations. • Provide direction and supervision to staff delivering delegated health services at school sites. • Consult with parents/guardians and conduct home contacts when appropriate. • Attend relevant continuing education workshops and seminars to maintain professional competence. • Provide consultation in the development and implementation of health and safety education curriculum. • Assist with the District’s Worker’s Compensation program and District Safety Program as required. • Maintain an inventory of health room supplies at each assigned site. Education and Qualifications Applicants must meet one of the following: • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution* • OR • Three (3) or more years of licensed practical experience as a Registered Nurse working with school-aged children. • Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) or hold a valid RN license from a Nurse Licensure Compact state. • Successful completion of field experiences and a supervised practicum as prescribed by the preparing institution, including experience with school-age children in a community health, public health, or school setting. • Knowledge of pediatric nursing, chronic disease management, immunization requirements, and school health regulations preferred. • Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, support staff, parents, and community agencies. *CCNE- and ACEN-accredited programs are accepted.
