PRIMARY PURPOSE: You will take on complex or high-exposure claim issues while providing invaluable medical insight into the healthcare system and relevant healthcare matters. This role involves independently investigating, analyzing, and evaluating medical malpractice claims for self-insured and commercially insured clients, delivering essential information for clients to assess liability and exposure, and identifying risk management issues to mitigate legal costs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manage complex or high-exposure claim issues and provide guidance to Nurse Consultant - PL colleagues.
• Review requests for investigation, develop action plans, and conduct case investigations.
• Gather and document data from the company and clients, communicating results as necessary.
• Prepare comprehensive reports summarizing medical records and interviews, outlining key issues, and offering analyses and recommendations for claims handling.
• Conduct weekly interviews with practitioners involved in medical malpractice claims at hospital facilities.
• Engage in follow-up reviews and investigations as directed and assist with discovery requests as needed.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Support the organization’s quality programs.
• Travel as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Licensing: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred along with a required RN license. LNC (Legal Nurse Consultant) Certification or training is preferred.
Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of relevant clinical nursing experience and two (2) years of experience as a nurse consultant is required. Experience in general or professional liability investigation is preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
• Thorough understanding of medical malpractice claims processes and procedures.
• Outstanding oral and written communication skills, including strong presentation abilities.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and other PC applications.
• Excellent analytical and interpretive skills.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• A collaborative team player.
• Capacity to meet or surpass Performance Competencies.

Sedgwick provides a competitive salary range for this role: $40.00 - $45.00/hr. Actual compensation depends on various factors including skill set, experience, and location. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, 401k with matching, PTO, disability and life insurance, employee assistance programs, and other optional benefits.
