Job Description
The RN Staff Nurse supervises the day-to-day care delivered to assigned residents through conducting of rounds to ensure completion of work assignments according to care plans and resident wishes. Responsibilities include receiving and transcribing physician orders; ordering, preparing, and administering meds and treatments; ensuring that controlled substance records are accurate, reporting any discrepancies; receiving and giving change of shift reports; completing resident assessments; participating in development and implementation of resident care plans and discharge planning; ensuring ongoing assessments of residents' condition; observing residents for side effects, pain, emotional status, changes in condition, etc., and notifying physician, as appropriate; assisting the RNAC with completion of documentation; and other duties as assigned.
Work Conditions:
Works in office area(s) as well as throughout resident areas; is subject to frequent interruptions; is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors; works beyond normal working hours when necessary; is subject to call back during emergency conditions (i.e., severe weather, evacuation, post disaster, etc.); is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., throughout the work day, as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, and other
air contaminants; is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB, HIV and Hepatitis; and may be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
Education Requirements
Must possess, as a minimum, a Diploma or Nursing Degree from an accredited school, college or university; must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania;
Experience Requirements
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public; must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel; must be able to summarize and relate information concerning a resident's condition; must possess the ability/willingness to learn basic computer skills. Long-term care experience is preferred.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
(With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requi
rem ents of this position
can be fully met.
Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which include a medical and physical exa
min ation.
Must be able to relate to and work with persons who exhibit emotional instability, confusion, or at times, hostility.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 3 feet and be able to carry such weight a minimum distance of 25 feet.
Using a mechanical device, must regularly be able to push, pull, or move weight in excess of 100 pounds a distance of 300 feet.
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
