An opportunity is available for a skilled Registered Nurse to provide specialized care in a medically complex step-down unit. This role focuses on adult patients requiring step-down care, including those with general medical and oncology needs. Location: Situated in Hastings, MI, this assignment offers the unique experience of working in a regional medical center known for comprehensive oncology and general medicine services. Responsibilities: • Deliver high-quality nursing care to general medical and oncology step-down patients • Administer chemotherapy intravenously, ensuring adherence to strict safety protocols • Initiate IV access and manage IV lines proficiently • Utilize Welch Allyn vital sign monitors, Sigma IV pumps, and EPIC electronic health records for documentation • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and provide patient-centered care while managing nurse-to-patient ratios ranging from 1:4 to 1:6, with support staff adjustments as needed • Float to other medical-surgical areas, such as acute units and emergency departments, to assist with patient care • Follow block scheduling, with weekend shifts assigned every other week and self-scheduled weekdays where possible Qualifications: • Current Michigan RN license and BLS (AHA) certification required • ONCC or ONS certification mandatory and must be current • Minimum of 2 years of experience in progressive care or step-down nursing • Proven ability to administer chemotherapy via IV and perform IV starts • Comfort and proficiency with electronic documentation and specialized equipment Schedule: • Night shift: 3x 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM) • Must be available for the first two weeks of the assignment; weekend coverage every other weekend • Call not required This contract position allows for professional growth within a specialty nursing environment and block scheduling flexibility.
