A rewarding opportunity exists for an experienced RN in a Stepdown/PCU setting in Kings Mountain, NC. This contract position offers the chance to support patients with a variety of acute and complex conditions, including congestive heart failure, dysrhythmias, stroke, respiratory illnesses, and more. The role demands strong clinical skills, critical thinking, and collaborative care in a family-oriented hospital environment.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
• Minimum 18 months of PCU RN experience required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Proficiency with tracheostomy care, cardiac drip management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, blood transfusions, wound care, and central line management
• Experience working with diverse patient populations facing diagnoses such as CHF, stroke, acute kidney injury, alcohol withdrawal, and infections
• Comfortable using EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Phillips patient monitors
Responsibilities:
• Provide focused, high-quality nursing care for patients not requiring mechanical ventilation
• Manage patient ratios typically at 1:4, occasionally up to 1:5 depending on acuity
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including CNA, charge nurse, phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7
• Monitor telemetry and other vital signs closely to ensure early detection of clinical changes
• Document all care accurately using EPIC and maintain compliance with hospital policies
Scheduling & Environment:
• Weekend rotation every other weekend; no call requirements
• Holiday staffing expectations at approximately 75% coverage
• Schedule cycles rotate every 6 weeks with flexible return-to-office time off approval
• Dayshift position with supportive departmental orientation and free parking
