A specialty nursing opportunity is available for experienced RNs with step-down or progressive care experience at a tertiary care hospital recognized as a 5-time Magnet awardee and a Level 1 Trauma Center. Responsibilities:
• Providing patient care on the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:5, occasionally 1:6
• Managing a variety of patient diagnoses—pulmonary, wounds, urology, cardiac, neurological, and renal
• Interpreting cardiac dysrhythmias and monitoring telemetry on-unit
• Administering complex therapies including IV insulin protocols, blood products, and heparin protocols
• Managing multiple line types such as central lines, PICC, and peripheral IVs; performing phlebotomy and IV starts
• Delivering respiratory care including chest tube management and non-invasive airway support
• Applying isolation precautions and wound care measures with possible use of wound vacs
• Floating between departments or units as needed within professional scope
• Participating in weekend shifts and holiday assignments per scheduling requirements
Qualifications:
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in step-down or progressive care settings
• Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale certifications required
• Proficiency in telemetry, cardiac monitoring, and emergency response
• Experience with medication protocols including PCA, blood product administration, and respiratory care
• Ability to float across units and departments
• Strong clinical judgment and assessment skills
Schedule:
• Night shift, three 12-hour shifts per week (18:45 – 07:15)
• Weekend shift commitment: 8 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule cycle (Friday, Saturday, Sunday combination)
• Holiday shifts and charge nurse assignments as required
