
Stepdown Registered Nurse - Los Alamos, New Mexico in Los Alamos, NM
Job Description
A nursing opportunity is available in Los Alamos, NM, focusing on step-down care that supports medically complex patients awaiting community placement. This contract role requires the ability to provide compassionate, efficient, and patient-focused care while collaborating closely with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
Responsibilities include delivering direct patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation; administering medications and treatments; documenting care accurately; and ensuring safe, equitable patient outcomes. The role also involves clinical supervision of LPNs and non-licensed assistive personnel and requires flexibility to float between departments or nearby locations within a 20-mile radius. Strong skills in recognizing and responding to patient condition changes, de-escalation, and managing a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:7 are critical. Weekend work and participation in on-call coverage may be required.
Key Qualifications:
• Licensed Registered Nurse with current RN credentials
• Ability to successfully pass a Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia (BCA) test upon onboarding
• Experience in step-down nursing or caring for medically complex and Med/Surg patients
• Proficient in administering medications and treatments according to protocols
• Strong clinical assessment and patient monitoring skills
• Effective communicator with interdisciplinary teams and patients families
• Adaptability to float across departments and local sites within a 20-mile area
