
Stepdown Registered Nurse | Portsmouth, New Hampshire in Eliot, ME
Job Description
Deliver specialized nursing care in a cardiac step-down unit, supporting patients transitioning from intensive cardiac services and managing complex medical and surgical telemetry cases. This role involves working with a multidisciplinary team to provide focused care for conditions including cardiac management, stroke overflow, chest pain evaluations, and respiratory support.

Position Details:
• Job Type: Contract
• Schedule: 3 twelve-hour shifts per week with every other weekend rotation or a 4-week shift schedule
• Unit Environment: 20-bed Cardiac Medical Unit with a patient ratio of 5:1
• Team Composition: 4-RN teams supported by a Clinical Nurse Coordinator, 2 LNAs, and a Unit Clerk
• Technology: Familiarity with IV pumps, Sara Steadys, high-flow oxygen devices, BiPAP, Kangaroo pumps, and Meditech Expanse documentation system
Responsibilities:
• Provide expert telemetry nursing care, including cardiac monitoring and management
• Perform advanced procedures such as thoracentesis, peritoneal dialysis, tracheostomy care, pacemaker monitoring, cardiac catheterization assistance, and CIWA assessments
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver bedside shift rounds and handoffs to enhance patient experience
• Adhere to unit policies, including professional dress code and certification requirements
Qualifications:
• Registered Nurse licensed to practice in the state
• Proficiency in telemetry monitoring and cardiac care
• Current ASLS and BLS certifications required
• Experience with critical cardiac procedures and respiratory support technologies
• Ability to manage cardiology patients with CHF, COPD, and post-stroke care without post-cath lab arterial complications
