
Stepdown Registered Nurse - South Charleston, West Virginia in Charleston, WV
Job Description
A nursing opportunity is available on the 3S Intermediate Care Unit, offering night shifts with competitive hours and the chance to care for a diverse patient population in a dynamic, acute care environment. This contract position focuses on providing specialized intermediate care to patients with a variety of medical needs including respiratory conditions, cardiac arrhythmias, post-operative kidney transplant care, and neurological interventions.
Location:
The position is based in South Charleston, WV, a city known for its friendly community, scenic beauty along the Kanawha River, and proximity to outdoor activities such as hiking and boating. South Charleston balances a small-town feel with access to urban amenities, making it an appealing place for healthcare professionals to live and work.
Responsibilities:
• Deliver nursing care to telemetry and medical/surgical patients, maintaining a 3:1 or 4:1 patient ratio depending on unit.
• Monitor and manage patients with complex conditions including dysrhythmias and ventilator support.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support post-operative and acute medical cases.
• Float between units within your scope, supporting patient care needs across departments.
• Participate in orientation sessions and adhere to scheduling requirements including every other weekend shifts.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 2 years RN experience with at least 1 year in a similar specialty setting (IMC or ICU). First-time stepdown nurses welcome.
• Current WV or Compact RN license (pending licenses accepted with active status before start).
• BLS and AHA ACLS certification required.
• Strong skills in telemetry interpretation, dysrhythmia management, and ventilator care.
• Willingness to work night shifts (7p-7a), primarily 4x12 hour shifts.
• Compliance with mandatory flu vaccination requirement during flu season, with medical exemptions considered.
Additional Information:
• Guaranteed 36 or 48 hours per week options, with flexible block scheduling available.
• Parking garage provided free for staff.
• Cerner electronic charting system utilized.
• No call obligations; weekend rotation every other weekend.
• Rigorous submission process requiring comprehensive documentation and references.
