Job Overview – Substitute School Nurse (RN)
Compensation: $45/hour
Location: Providence, RI
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
TAG MedStaffing is hiring a Substitute School Nurse (RN) in Providence, RI for our client, supporting student health services in a school-based setting. In this role, you will provide daily clinical care, respond to medical needs and emergencies, and support a safe and healthy learning environment. You will manage student health conditions, administer medications, maintain accurate health records, and collaborate with school staff, families, and healthcare providers.
Responsibilities as the Substitute School Nurse (RN):
• Student Health & Emergency Care: Provide immediate care for student illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies, including medication administration and first aid.
• Chronic Condition Management: Monitor and support students with chronic health conditions, ensuring care plans and prescribed treatments are followed.
• Emergency Preparedness & Response: Respond to emergencies with CPR and first aid, implement emergency action plans, and support staff with emergency procedures.
• Health Assessments & Screenings: Conduct routine student health assessments and screenings, including vision, hearing, and scoliosis checks.
• Documentation & Communication: Maintain accurate, confidential health records and communicate with parents, guardians, and school staff regarding student health needs.
Qualifications for the Substitute School Nurse (RN):
• Education: Associate’s or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
• Licensure: Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Rhode Island required.
• Certification: Current School Nurse certification required or ability to obtain within the required timeframe, with BLS, CPR, and First Aid certifications required.
• Experience: 1+ year of nursing experience required, with pediatric, school nursing, or community health experience strongly preferred.
• Clinical Knowledge: Experience managing chronic pediatric conditions and familiarity with special education processes and student health accommodations preferred.
• Technical Skills: Experience using electronic health record systems and proficiency with computer-based documentation tools.
• Skills & Attributes: Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, the ability to remain calm in emergencies, strong organizational skills, and a compassionate, student-focused approach.
