
Surgical Critical Care Registered Nurse in Ansonia, CT

The Surgical Critical Care Registered Nurse (RN) plays a crucial role in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care within our surgical intensive care unit. Under the guidance of the Nurse Manager or Clinical Coordinator, you will supervise patient care according to unit policies and procedures, oversee non-RN staff, and may be required to work in different nursing units based on patient and staffing needs. You will also perform various tasks to ensure exceptional service delivery.
Responsibilities
• Conduct ongoing assessments of patients' physical and psychosocial conditions throughout their care continuum.
• Develop, communicate, and document individualized care plans with input from patients, families, and healthcare teams to achieve desired outcomes.
• Implement and coordinate care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the care plan, patients' responses, and readiness for discharge, making necessary adjustments and referrals as needed.
• Assess learning needs of patients and families, providing educational opportunities and documenting outcomes.
• Precept new staff members and lead as a Charge Nurse when required.
• Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and professional development.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support smooth operation of the unit.
• Demonstrate competency in caring for neurosurgical patients and conducting neuro assessments.
• Exhibit skills in airway management and tracheostomy care.
• Assist physicians during special neuro procedures and understand the 'TIA' teaching program.
• Perform suctioning for pharyngeal, endotracheal, and tracheostomy patients according to established policies.
• Show proficiency in using equipment for patients in a halo brace and provide care for vent-dependent patients.
Qualifications
Education:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred. Proficient in electronic patient records and internet literature searches related to patient care.
Experience:
N/A
Licensure:
Valid Registered Nurse License in the State of Connecticut.
Special Skills:
BLS certification required.
Additional Information:
Med/Surg RN experience is required.
