As a Surgical Registered Nurse (RN), you will work under the guidance of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise individual patient care in a dynamic nursing environment. Your role will also involve providing supervision to non-RN personnel and may require flexibility to work on different nursing units. You will contribute to maintaining high standards of service while fulfilling other duties as necessary.
Responsibilities
• Continuously assess patients' physical and psychosocial conditions throughout their care.
• Create, communicate, and document an individualized plan of care, collaborating with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
• Implement and coordinate the plan of care in collaboration with colleagues.
• Evaluate care effectiveness, patient responses, and discharge readiness, adjusting the care plan as necessary.
• Identify and plan for the educational needs of patients and families, ensuring documented outcomes.
• Act as a preceptor for new staff, guiding their professional development.
• Assume charge nurse responsibilities, delegating and supervising unit activities.
• Meet performance expectations regarding customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and personal development.
• Perform additional duties as directed to ensure smooth department operations.
• Demonstrate competency in caring for neuro patients, including neuro assessments and airway management for trached patients.
• Assist physicians during special neuro procedures with skill and understanding.
• Execute suctioning procedures according to established policies.
• Utilize and care for patients in a Halo brace effectively.
• Exhibit knowledge of nursing responsibilities for ventilated patients.
Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred. Proficient in electronic patient records and internet research for patient care enhancement.
Experience: Not specified.
Licensure: Valid State of Connecticut Registered Nurse License.
Special Skills: BLS certification required.
