Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and adaptable Temporary Pre-Operative/Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week assignment. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in acute care settings, including surgical, and critical care environments. This role involves providing exceptional patient care before and after surgical procedures, ensuring patient safety, and supporting recovery in a fast-paced hospital setting. Candidates with experience in hospital medicine, ICU, or Trauma Centers are highly preferred. Proficiency with electronic health record systems such as Epic or Cerner is essential.
Duties
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs, physical examinations, and physiological evaluations
• Administer medications and injections following proper protocols while maintaining aseptic technique
• Monitor and manage airway devices such as ventilators and perform airway management as needed
• Perform diagnostic evaluations including specimen collection/processing and laboratory testing
• Assist with complex procedures such as suturing, injections, and catheterization
• Ensure infection control standards are strictly followed to prevent healthcare-associated infections
• Document all patient interactions accurately within EMR/EHR systems
• Provide education on post-operative care, pain management, and discharge planning to patients and their families
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care for patients with diverse needs including trauma, geriatrics, pediatrics, neonatal care, or behavioral health
Skills
• Extensive experience in acute care environments such as PACU, ICU, emergency room, trauma centers (Level I & II), or surgical units
• Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, and diagnostic evaluation techniques
• Skilled in medication administration including IV infusion and injections; capable of venipuncture and IV insertion
• Expertise in infection control practices and sterile processing techniques
• Ability to perform advanced patient assessments including vital signs monitoring and physical examinations
• Knowledge of Workers' Compensation law related to occupational injuries and illnesses is advantageous
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams and patient education
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced hospital environment while maintaining high standards of patient safety and care
