Job Title: Critical Care RN Profession: Nursing Specialty: Critical Care Duration: 10 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 5 years License: RN License Certifications: ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale, EKG FIT Test Must-Have: ACLS training required within 90 days. NIH Stroke Scale within 90 days of hire or transfer. Description: Provides professional nursing care to assigned patients utilizing the nursing process, within established standards and practices. Assesses and reassesses young adult, adult, and elderly patients. Applies the nursing process to care of critically ill patients. Manages airway, pain, cardiac, pulmonary, and gastrointestinal care. Performs neurological, neurovascular, orthopedic, and genitourinary care. Administers enteral nutrition and specialized IV drips. Maintains central venous catheters and oversees medication administration. Handles information management, IV therapy, transfuion therapy, and invasive monitoring. Participates in Code Blue situations for inpatient areas. Attends all mandatory education and in-services. Evaluates patient care outcomes and consults with specialists as required. Performs comprehensive assessments on all patients. Provides individualized, age-specific care promoting homeostasis and physiologic functioning. Documents accurately and maintains patient confidentiality. Treats patients and families with respect and dignity while identifying psychosocial and cultural needs. Acts as a patient advocate and involves families in care planning. Creates teaching plans based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness. Supervises other healthcare staff involved in patient care. Assists physicians with procedures as needed. Adjusts nursing care processes based on workload changes. Participates in performance improvement activities to enhance patient outcomes. Functions as a preceptor to orient new employees. Strives for professional growth and development by participating in educational programs. Maintains operation and supply levels of patient care equipment. Exhibits flexibility and organization under stressful situations. Complies with departmental competencies and medical center policies. Performs housekeeping duties and assists with patient transportation when necessary. Serves as a team leader and role model for staff members. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
