Description : The Registered Nurse functions as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes.
This position focuses on expanding knowledge and skills and provides effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team.
The role directs and oversees the care provided by other caregivers through delegation, validation, evaluation, and coordination.
The nurse effectively coordinates patient care and unit activities among nursing peers, physicians, and support services.
A Registered Nurse involves the delivery of nursing practices according to the most up-to-date evidence-based research and nursing policies.
This ensures safe and excellent delivery of individualized patient care.
Responsibilities include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Assessment involves collecting comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
The nurse performs age and disease-specific assessment / data collection independently and systematically.
Clinical and diagnostic status changes in patient status must be recognized.
Identifying variables in patient and family education needs based on age, disease, and culturally specific learning differences is essential.
In planning, the nurse develops a plan of care that prescribes strategies and interventions to attain expected outcomes.
Age and disease-specific patient and family-centered goals and outcomes are formulated based on assessment data.
The plan of care must be patient / family focused, prioritized, and encompass the continuum of care.
Implementation requires communicating, coordinating, and implementing the plan of care.
Ongoing communication with the patient and family, nursing colleagues, and the healthcare team regarding the patient's status is necessary.
Age and disease-specific care must be implemented in an organized and timely manner.
The nurse ensures patient and family education as needed and verifies understanding.
Evidence-based nursing practice and compliance with standards must be demonstrated through nursing care and treatment.
Continuous electronic documentation of patient assessments, plans of care, interventions, and evaluations are required.
Medication administration must utilize advancements in safety technologies.
Multi-disciplinary discharging of patients is essential to ensure safe transitions and continuity of care.
In evaluation, progress toward attaining outcomes is assessed.
Critical thinking skills based on nursing knowledge are utilized to achieve desired patient outcomes.
Initiating interventions related to changes in patient condition and unexpected responses to care is vital.
Additional responsibilities include identifying ethical issues and enhancing patient satisfaction.
Maintaining competencies, certifications, and continuing education is required to meet facility and licensing standards.
Adherence to the organizational and managerial competencies and standards of behavior is expected.
The ability to lift a minimum of 35 lbs. and stand for a minimum of 6 hours a day is necessary.
