Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Registered Nurse Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: One year of professional nursing experience preferred License: Current licensure in the state of employment Certifications: None specified Must-Have: Graduate from an accredited college, university, or nursing program with a degree/diploma in nursing Description: The Registered Nurse (RN) plans and provides comprehensive nursing care including executing orders from Licensed Independent Providers. Dispenses and administers medications as required. Assists Licensed Independent Providers in examinations and treatment of patients. Applies nursing and supervisory techniques necessary for the care and treatment of inmates/residents. Performs technical and clinical procedures within the scope of education and licensure. Attends sick calls with the physician to see patients, prepares a list of individuals to be examined, and sets up the examination room and equipment. Operates pill call, dispenses medication, and documents as required by applicable policies and procedures. Contacts Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders, and addresses other emergencies. Examines and assesses new patients with illnesses or injuries or those that become ill or injured; refers individuals to emergency rooms or other appropriate healthcare facilities as needed. Performs emergency procedures as needed and notifies Licensed Independent Providers for treatment orders. Assists in coordinating professional medical services provided by contract personnel and addresses their needs. Monitors inpatient hospitalizations for early releases whenever appropriate. Provides guidance and supervises nursing care provided by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and non-licensed medical staff. Maintains a good working relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside provider agencies. Utilizes established corporate and facility policies and procedures in decision-making while employing sound independent judgment. Regularly evaluates the provision of medical services to prevent inappropriate use or duplication of those services. Maintains absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records. Assists in reviewing medical files to determine all provided services are documented. Closely monitors all potential catastrophic illnesses. Audits pharmacy use for adherence to formulary as directed. Complies with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances. Observes and records patient behavior. Inspects the medical unit for items that could be used as contraband and secures supplies and equipment accordingly. Provides health counseling and health education on an individual or group basis as required. Assists in preparing and maintaining various standard records, reports, and logs using appropriate grammar. Reads, analyzes, comprehends, and interprets medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, and legal documents. Reviews, processes, and responds to lawsuits; attends court hearings when necessary. Evaluates and recommends physical safety requirements to ensure a safe working environment. Facilitates accreditation of the medical program by providing the required level of efficiency and approved medical services. Prepares and disseminates safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures. Takes appropriate actions in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies. Escorts or coordinates the movement of individuals to and from different areas for medical treatment. Performs searches of people and objects capable of concealing contraband. Engages in functions in confined areas that include monitoring security and safety measures. Takes appropriate action to prevent or defuse potentially disruptive situations. Performs rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters, including administering basic emergency medical aid and evacuating individuals.
