The nursing role involves providing professional nursing care to patients of all ages, including after-hours urgent/emergent clinic care.
The nurse performs professional duties utilizing the nursing process to initiate care and provide comprehensive nursing services that meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, and socio-cultural needs of the patient and family.
Demonstrating initiative and the ability to work independently on various tasks during light patient load is essential.
The nurse must quickly identify life-threatening situations and be organized in coordinating all aspects of patient care.
This ensures the highest quality of healthcare services and promotes excellent customer service.
Daily decisions affecting patient access to care and the direct delivery of care are made in this role.
Communication with patients, primary health care providers, and support services is required.
This position is under the direct supervision of a nurse manager.
The employee is expected to make decisions using basic nursing knowledge and skill developed from education and training.
Independence, self-motivation, and good judgment in decision-making and problem-solving are essential.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities:
Knowledge of nursing care principles, practices, and procedures is required to assess and care for patients of various ages and conditions.
In conjunction with the primary care provider, a plan of care is developed from assessment data for individual patients.
Observations and assessments of patient conditions must be documented.
The nurse evaluates whether nursing interventions have met healthcare goals and revises the care plan accordingly.
Therapeutic measures, as ordered by a physician or other qualified healthcare provider, are administered within the scope of practice and department protocol.
Operating specialized equipment competently is necessary.
Correct utilization of a computer-based health information system must be demonstrated.
The nurse performs triage of patients seeking non-routine appointments, assessing them according to established protocol and providing appropriate advice or directing them to the appropriate level of care.
Recognizing signs and symptoms that require intervention and taking appropriate actions is crucial.
Maintaining a safe and aseptic environment through sterile procedures is required.
Equipment must be maintained, and an adequate level of medical and nursing supplies must be ensured.
Safety concerns should be identified and corrected promptly.
The nursing staff is responsible for various functions, including laboratory operations, respiratory therapy, and radiology tasks.
Occasionally, assistance may be needed for referral care coordination and establishing care plans with patient providers.

Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required:
Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or other U.S. state is required.
Direct hire applicants must apply for an Alaska nursing license.
Successful completion of a BSN, Diploma, or Associate Nursing Degree Program is necessary.
BLS certification is required.
ACLS/PALS certification is required within one year of hire.
A limited radiology online course will be required and provided by the employer.
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Clinical Competency is required within three months of hire and must be maintained every three years.
High-Risk Competency is required within three months of hire and must be maintained annually.

Experience Required:
A minimum of six months of ambulatory health nursing experience, with at least one year of general nursing experience as an RN following completion of a BSN, or two years of general nursing experience is required.
A background in Emergency/Critical Care Nursing is a plus.

Knowledge:
Knowledge of professional nursing care principles, practices, and procedures is essential.
Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, their effects, side effects, and complications is necessary.
Understanding a wide variety of medical and psychosocial disorders is important.

Skills:
Professional nursing skills are crucial.
There is a need for proficiency in operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment and assisting with procedures.
Strong interpersonal communication skills are required.
Skill in operating and monitoring necessary equipment for patient diagnosis and care is required.

Abilities:
The ability to provide guidance and leadership to other nursing personnel is necessary.
The ability to develop or coordinate a multidisciplinary outpatient care plan is important.
