Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Surgical/Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights (Every Other Weekend, Floating Required) Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Experience with trach and BiPAP preferred, but not required - Ability to titrate drips Description: This position is for a registered nurse specializing in medical surgical and oncology care. The unit primarily cares for adults and geriatrics with various common diagnoses such as strokes, hypertension, COPD, cellulitis, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, chest pain, and myocardial infarction. The nurse-patient ratios are typically 1:4-5 during the day and 1:5-6 at night. The role includes responsibilities such as administering chemotherapy and caring for patients in need of specialized medical attention. Experience with titratable drips such as Lasix and Heparin is preferred, and nurses are expected to manage these as needed. A charge nurse is present on each shift, serving as a resource and support. Nursing aides or patient care technicians will assist with patient care, with a typical RN to aide ratio of 1:8. The position requires occasional floating to other medical surgical units, with telemonitoring assistance provided by designated staff. Shifts may include block scheduling depending on unit needs, and nurses should be prepared to work every other weekend and on holidays as required. There is no call or standby requirement associated with this position. The medical surgical/oncology unit fosters a culture of teamwork and support, ensuring travel nurses feel welcomed and valued.
