Length of Assignment: 13 weeks
Shift: Days and every other weekend (36 hours per week 3x12)

Duties
• Provide comprehensive labor, delivery, and postpartum nursing care to mothers and newborns, ensuring safety and comfort throughout all stages of childbirth.
• Conduct patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and interpret fetal heart rate patterns using advanced monitoring equipment.
• Administer medications, including IV infusions and analgesics, following strict aseptic techniques and hospital protocols.
• Assist with procedures such as suturing, catheterization, and neonatal resuscitation, ensuring adherence to sterile techniques.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including obstetricians, anesthesiologists, and pediatric specialists to coordinate care plans.
• Document all patient interactions accurately within EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
• Educate patients on childbirth processes, postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care practices.
• Respond swiftly to emergencies such as acute pain episodes or obstetric complications, utilizing advanced airway management and trauma medicine skills when necessary.
• Participate in discharge planning and patient education initiatives tailored to individual needs.
Qualifications
• Valid RN license in Oregon or ability to obtain licensure promptly.
• Minimum of 2 years of recent labor and delivery nursing experience in hospital settings; Level I or Level II trauma center experience preferred.
• Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; familiarity with ICD-10/ICD-9 coding is advantageous.
• Demonstrated expertise in obstetric procedures including suturing, catheterization, IV insertion, and sterile processing techniques.
• Experience managing complex cases involving acute pain management, fetal monitoring, neonatal resuscitation (e.g., Neonatal Ventilator), and infection control protocols.
• Knowledge of physiology related to pregnancy, labor progression, neonatal assessment, and maternal health coaching.
• Certifications required include Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
• Ability to work independently in high-pressure situations while maintaining excellent communication skills with patients and team members.
