Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry Oncology position requiring an AZ or compact RN license and at least two years of acute care experience.
Details
• Work in an acute care hospital on a 32-bed Med/Surg Oncology Telemetry unit
• Primary patient population is 85% oncology and 15% med/surg with telemetry needs
• Typical patient ratio is 1:4
• 12-hour night shifts (7:00pm–7:00am) with a requirement of four weekend shifts per four-week period
• Rotating holiday coverage is required
• Use of Cerner EMR; Cerner experience preferred
• Phillips telemetry monitors are used; RNs must interpret EKGs
• Care for patients on Bipap and Cpap; no hospitalist or intensivist in house
• Float to other Med/Surg or Tele units as needed
• 24/7 RT and pharmacy support available
• On-unit support includes a charge nurse with light assignment and two PCTs per shift
• Floor-specific orientation provided for two days
Requirements
• Active AZ or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care RN experience required, specifically in Med/Surg, Telemetry, or Oncology
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Chemo certification is preferred but not required
• Ability to interpret telemetry and EKGs required
• Must pass Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam and a sterile technique competency on day one of orientation
• Driver’s license required for identification purposes
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility as confirmed by driver’s license
• Two professional references required: one from a supervisor within the past 12 months and one from either a supervisor or peer within the last 3 years
Additional Information
• Daily responsibilities include care of oncology and med/surg patients, specialty procedures such as Foley catheter insertion, and central line dressing changes
• SIMs Lab skills assessment is pass/fail and required on day one, particularly related to sterile technique; failure results in ineligibility for 6 months
• All nurses are expected to demonstrate competence in maintaining sterile fields
• Educational modules on lifts, restraints, and wound care are provided due to facility-specific equipment and policies
• Scrub color is navy; professional appearance required including no facial piercings and natural hair color
• Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
• First time travelers are eligible to apply
• Candidates may not have been directly employed by the health system within the past year
