TITLE: Wound Treatment Nurse
REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing
Non-Exempt
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The primary purpose of the position is to direct and supervise resident care in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility and as may be required by the Director of Nursing to ensure that the highest quality of care is maintained at all times.
ROLE and RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Performs nursing techniques for the comfort and well-being of the residents; checks each resident daily to determine status; ensures residents reach the highest attainable level of functioning.
• Prepares equipment and assists physicians during their rounds.
• Administers prescribed medications, provides treatments using therapeutic equipment; ensures proper handling and storage of medications and controlled substances.
• Observes resident's reactions to medications and treatments.
• Observes, records, and reports changes in residents' condition to the supervisor and attending physician.
• Provide wound care as per protocol and assess bandage integrity during the times between dressing changes.
• Assure that adequate treatment supplies and topical medications as prescribed by the physician are available at all times.
• Stocking the treatment cart on an as needed basis to ensure all supplies that are needed are available.
• Assess and measure all wounds weekly and complete proper documentation.
• Communicate with the attending physician the pertinent information to the individual resident needs and/or changes in wound status.
• Review and sign TAR's for monthly change over.
• Notify physician and family of any resident changes (e.g., incidents, skin breakdown, etc.) and complete documentation of the notification in a timely manner.
KEY CHARACTERISTICS:
• Must have the ability to lead and motivate co-workers.
• Ability to work independently without supervision.
• Able to work intimately with residents, physicians, and staff.
• Good interpersonal and communication skill.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Has a current unencumbered Georgia LPN license.
2. Experience in the long-term care setting is preferred.
